| Rainbow
Bridge Poem
|
There
is a bridge connecting Heaven and Earth. It is
called the Rainbow Bridge because of its many
colors. Just this side of the Rainbow Bridge,
there is a land of meadows, hills and valleys
with lush green grass. When a beloved pet dies,
the pet goes to this place.
There
is always food and water, and warm Spring weather.
Those old and frail animals are young again. Those
who have been maimed are made whole again.
They
play all day with each other. But there is only
one thing missing. They are not with their special
person who loved them on earth. So, each day they
run and play until the day comes when one suddenly
stops playing and looks up. The nose twitches,
the ears are up, the eyes are staring, and this
one suddenly runs from the group.
You
have been seen, and when you and your special
friend meet, you take him or her in your arms
and embrace. Your face is kissed again and again
and again and you look once more into the eyes
of your trusting pet. Then you cross the Rainbow
Bridge together, never again to be separated.

| "We
who choose to surround ourselves with lives even
more temporary than our own, live within a fragile
circle, easily and often breached. Unable to accept
its awful gaps, we still would live no other way.
We cherish memory as the only certain immortality,
never fully understanding the necessary plan."

| Doozie Two was
my first dog. He wasn't ever truly housetrained,
growled at children, barked for no reason, ate
my clothing when he was bored, would have irritated
Lassie into biting him and snored every night,
but he taught me unconditional love. Many years
after his death I still think he was the greatest
little dog I'll ever be owned by. |

This
little puppy only lived 3 months. She spent all
but the last two weeks of her life in a breeder's
cage. She never learned to walk. She was still
relying on her mother's milk. Her littermates
died around her. She waited with her mom until
finally someone cared enough to get her and her
mom the help they needed.
In the last 10 days of her life she had learned
to walk with the help of a young girl who spent
all her time massaging her weak legs and loving
on her. I know this little bit of a dog will be
waiting at the rainbow bridge for her girl, her
first real friend.
Please don't breed, but if you must, do
it responsibly and follow the advice of your veterinarian.
