| Bella |
|
|
I just wanted to write and let you know that Bella is still so awesome. Dave and I feel like we hit the jackpot with her. I'm sure she's the best dog in the world, but I may be a little bit biased.
She's really gotten a lot more confident. As a result, more and more of her personality has come out. She chases cats *for fun* now. The cats run away like she's really vicious, but then one second later, they'll be sitting in the same room right next to each other, like nothing happened. It's a complex relationship that dogs and cats have . . .
One thing Bella REALLY loves about the cats is their food. To think that I was once worried that Bella's appetite was too low. She now eats just about anything she can sniff out. If she can't finish it just then, she'll bury it for a rainy day. One day, she broke into a bag of rice cakes. We came home to rice cakes in every nook and cranny of every sofa and sofa chair that we own. It was hilarious. At least once every few weeks, we'll find a rawhide or a kong underneath our pillows as we fall asleep. Isn't that sweet of her!!?
And I'm not sure I can do justice to this in writing, but she pounces like a reindeer or a bunny rabbit when she is chasing squirrels off leash. It's the funniest thing I have ever seen.
She definitely has some sort of pointer in her, because every now and then she'll point perfectly.
She's incredibly well behaved. She's learned sit, stay, wait, break, and shake. She almost always comes when called. It's only the squirrels that sometimes cause her to be hard of hearing. But even then, when she hears the seriousness of my voice, she'll tear herself away slowly, grudgingly, and come.
We try to give her some off-leash time ever day. There are several great open spaces nearby that are perfect for this. And she loves going on hikes with us. We've got a regular play date with her friend Phebee, a rottweiler puppy who loves to play. About twice a week, she gets to go to work with her dad and stay there all day.
We're moving later this month to a house that has a fenced-in yard (just down the street). This will be good for her even though she's not a roamer.
Thanks again for taking care of Bella until we could find her. Our lives would not be the same without her.

| Murphy (formerly Tashi) |
|
|
| I adopted Tashi a year ago April and wanted to send you an e-mail to let you know how well everything has been going. She is just the most wonderful addition to my life and I am so very grateful to have her. I changed her name to "Murphy" leaving Tashi as her middle name. She has the best personality and is full of life. We enjoy long walks in the park, car rides to the pet store, and visiting many dog pals.

| Kojak |
|
|
Kojak is doing well, although he keeps eating my favorite shoes when I leave the house. No one else's, just mine! He also has a paper fettish. He tries to get hold of the bathroom tissue if we forget to put it on the holder. (thanks kids!) He also takes his bed, which is in my sons room and pulls it out with his teeth and pushes it the rest of the way with his head into the living room when we're gone. But he doesn't lay on it out there, he lays on the couch instead. He's kind of weird, but we love him.
The cutest thing is when you wake up or first come home he follows you around until you stop and sit down for him to hug you. The visitors think its funny. He has to put his paws on you and put his head on your shoulder and snuggle. Did you teach him that? We thought at first he was just so glad to have a home but now it is a ritual.
He thinks he is my baby and I have to hold him or he be in my lap. So when I study I have a book in one hand on the couch and Kojak under the other.

| Sisko |
|
|
..And on the third day he exploded, cut loose, went bonkers, ran my behind off (cause I was attached to the leash), LOVES "did I say LOVES the water??" Here's a picture when he stopped. A video camera could not have caught him in action. I'm still wondering how my body kept up with him. Or maybe that was me I passed in the yard this morning.
Llamas have become interesting, but still intimidating. Before long it'll be no big deal. Ducks have become items to slink towards or sit and think about slinking towards; one cat is to pay attention to at: aTTENTION; one cat is to play with and lick; one cat is to look at it and squeak "come on and play" to (she's still running for the covers). There's at least a million other stories already!
We now have a new collar, a halter, kongs and kongs, one of those dispenser balls that they've gotta figure out in order to get kibble bits (didn't take him long). Today I bought a gentle leader harness. NOW I know why people use them. Thought I'd best start as early as possible on the walking on leash lesson. I think by tomorrow he'll be 75 pounds!!! |

| Marley (formerly Amelia) |
|
|
|
I just wanted to send you an email to thank you for letting me come play with these people. I have lots of fun running around in the yard and playing with my toys. They even have COLD water that they can turn on and off. I am getting used to the harness and collar but I made them promise me they would get me some prettier clothes when I grow some more. I still like to chew on what I wear now. I love my pink raccoon toy and my liver treats are my favorite! When I am not playing outside I like to lay around in the house and play some more or sleep. I don't know why these humans don't listen to me and just play and sleep, I think it's the secret to life!! Even if they aren't so smart, they have taught me so much already, like how to email!! WOW. I can shake with both hands, I can lay down, and I can sit (I won't tell them that I came with that trick under my belt) and I am learning to bring the tennis ball back when they throw it. These humans are so easily entertained! Well Its time for my third nap of the day. I have to keep up my energy to keep playing.
Thanks for taking care of me and for letting me come live in the mountains. I love my new home! Give all of my other puppy friends my best and I hope they all find good homes too.
Thanks Marley |

| Cricket (formerly Nora)
|
|
|
|
| Cricket is now an official Therapy Dog. Congratulations!! |
| Holly (formerly Gabby) |
|
|
I wanted to write and give you the update on Holly (Gabby). We had her spayed on Monday, and she's doing great.
She is a very snuggly pup. We're still trying to figure out her "heritage." She has very soft fine hair on her ears, head, and sides of the body. Straight down the back of her torso, the hair is thick and coarse, and we've even seen it "stand up," sorta like a mohawk !!
She and Tarheel are getting along, but in a young child/older child sort of way. They are very funny. AND quite entertaining. |

| Starbuck (formerly Sancho)
|
|
|
Starbuck has settled into his new home, and is now great friends with big brother, Darius. He worships him - curling up with him on the dog bed and cleaning his ears. He has also decided that, instead of expending a lot of energy fetching, he'll let Darius get the ball and run back with it. Then he goes in for the steal. He also loves to play tug with Dar, and frankly does really well for being so little in comparison (and he won't be little for long! he's growing fast.). Other favorite activities include annoying the cat and eating every stick he can get his big ol' paws on!
Starbuck also has developed one floppy ear, which makes him look completely ridiculous and even more irresistible. He's quite the charmer, and we love him madly. |
| Maggie
|
|
|
|
Just wanted
to drop you a note and a picture to let you know how well Maggie
is doing. She rules the house and mom and dad adore her. This was a
great match. Thanks for all the work you do! |
| Penny
(formerly Annalee) |
|
|
|
Penny's
First Day
As promised, here are some pictures of Penny's
first day. She is doing so well. Cried a little
the first night in the crate, but last night was
perfect. Not a peep out of her. And NO accidents!
Thank goodness.
Eddie is perplexed. He can't tell what is going
on, but he plays with her and she follows him
around everywhere. They both are eating heartily
and seem to enjoy each other's company.
Thanks again for everything. We already love her
to pieces. |

| SweetPea |
|
|
Sweet Pea is still
the typical Chi, but she is adapting superbly
and only shaking 1/2 the time. We have found that
she will come into our arms if we squat down.
She will jump into the rocking chair if we just
pat on it and call her name. She lets Skylar and
Beach Bum (another cat...HUGE!) jump up and sleep
beside her in the kitchen. Just now she jumped
into the den bed with Pebbles as I sit here and
type. Nancy and I have a bunk bed. I sleep on
top with some of our cats. Nancy is on a double
bottom and has dogs and cats with her. Sweet Pea
sleeps under the blanket next to Nancy. Sheep
and some of the others sleep on the short pet
beds on the floor. Sweet Pea will go out our dog
door, but still is afraid to come in it. We monitor
it and are putting up the barrier until we are
sure she can get in and out. Even though we have
a chain link, we monitor her at all times outside.
You know how it is with new territory. Even the
cars sound different and we have an acre yard
with about 1/2 of it fenced. It will take a while
for her to feel like it is "her" yard.
We have only heard her bark twice and that's when
I come to bed at 3-4 am. Nancy goes to bed earlier
and gets up earlier. Sweet Pea barked at me when
I tried to sneak into the dark room. We praised
her for her diligence. She is a wonderful little
dog and we are so pleased to have her. We are
serious about having room for another that she
is used to from your "gang." She might
enjoy someone from her old crew, or family, and
it might bring some energy to little Pebbles.
Our poor Sheep just can't do much and Bear sleeps
most of the time. Pebbles is still missing our
Little Dawg. It was a good sign that she and Sweet
Pea have begun to touch noses often.
Thank you so much for such a rewarding experience
in the adopting of our precious Sweet Pea. You
are a topnotch caregiver and a professional and
you certainly make the transition a smooth one.

| Sunshine |
|
|
Sunshine is doing great.
I think she has almost all her permanent teeth now.
Her canines are coming in this week. She's about
8 pounds now and is great fun and joy. She's keeping
Tobie on her toes and that's good. Tobie can still
beat her in a good chase.
Sunshine plays well and redirects well to her chew
toys instead of rugs, paper, and the like. She has
a blue teddy that she loves and sleeps with. (I'll
have to get a picture of that yet). She thinks that
my daughter, Lilli, is her own personal playmate
and loves to lick her head when she gets down on
the floor with her.
Here's a Christmas picture of Sunshine and Sunshine
with Tobie. They were both too pooped to jump off
the couch after today's runs so I could take this
picture.
Merry Christmas.

| Otto
(formerly Simon, formerly Vinnie) |
|
|
| Otto
now lives with a couple and their cat, Owen, in
Pittsboro. During the day he takes long naps and
tries to play with the cat...as they try to decide
who is the real king of the house. At night, he's
quite the lap dog, as he likes to watch TV with
his owners.
He also sleeps right in bed with his new family,
burrowing under the sheets and
playing little spoon whenever he can. He's quickly
become a loved family member.
Otto's new owner works at home so he's never too
far from someone to play with. Otto loves taking
walks around the neighborhood, meeting other dogs,
and playing with his squeaky toys. |
| Joey |
|
|
| Joey
is doing well, and we really love him. He is so
cute and i think he is adjusting well. I took some
pictures yesterday so I am attaching them. I will
definitely keep you up to date on him, and thanks
again for everything- your puppy pack was so thorough,
it has really helped a bunch! |
| Gilly
(formerly Giselle) |
|
|
| Gilly
was pulled from a shelter in SC and arrived pregnant.
Unfortuantely, her puppies were still-born a week
after arriving in rescue. She took it hard, but
once she found a wonderful home, thanks to Ferdinand's
Dog and Cat Boutique in Chapel Hill, she has never
looked back. Gilly is a wonderful dog and companion
for her new family and cocker spaniel friend, Bailey |
| Max
(formerly Elvis, formerly Ellis!) |
|
|
| Elvis
(now Max)has a new forever home with a retired couple
in Roxboro who have a female Lhasa. He totally won
his place in their home when he became the instant
companion for their 6 year old granddaughter recently.
Luckly little boy is living the good life with a
safe fenced yard so he doesn't hear the call of
the wild and explore too far to find his way back
home again. |
| Pepper
(formerly Amos) |
| |
|
| BEFORE |
AFTER |
| Amos/Pepper
is now living the good life in the NC country
side. His new daddy was looking for a little guy
like him for months and fell in love with him
immediately. Never could a little dog be more
loved after such a tough life, including being
shot with a bb sometime in the last few months
and being dumped in a rural shelter because his
owner didn't want him anymore. Good luck, little
man! Your new life will make you forget all the
sad lonely nights. |

Eli

|
|
Hi. My name is Eli. Today
I met a 8 kids who smelled really nice and my
foster mommy said 3 of them are going to be
my kids beginning next weekend! We played for
hours today and I just had the best time being
a family dog. Woof woof!
Eli
PS My foster mommy says
to write "Thank you, Dr. Tysor and Ms. Melissa
for not letting me go to that old shelter!"
If there weren't any kids there I'm sure I wouldn't
have liked it one bit!
